Old town in Mostar

Today's the name of the city of Mostar in the historical sources mentioned in the 1474th year. Mostar has been given name by "Mostari" - the bridge keepers. Upon arrival Ottomans in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the seizure of the Bosnian kingdom, Mostar became their important base for them. This period is important for the construction of the Old Town. Business part of the Old town - "čaršija" was created at the same time with both banks of the river Neretva. Stone bridge, which will have later become known as the Old Bridge, became the central and most important part, around which takes place then the entire life of Mostar. Residential zones - "mahala" were clearly separated and formed in the contact part of the Old town built around the Old Bridge. The most important period in the development of the city unfolded during the second half of XVI and early XVII century, when the initiative for most buildings (mosques, Medrese, bridge, hamam). Old Town of Mostar, together with the Old bridge, now is an extremely valuable cultural - civilization and historical monument. Today, the Old town with Old bridge presented by the pearl of the Ottoman architectural and cultural monument under UNESCO protection.
