The lake Ramsko jezero

This artificial lake has been created in 1968. The bed of the river Rama has been baffled.in its upper stream near the village Mluša by a dam made of stone fill up with an upstream concrete screen. The dam is about a 100 meters high. Its width in the foundational joint is about 305 meters.

The lake is a real beauty. It is about 70 to 100 meters deep by the dam. The distance between the dam and Varvara is about 7.5 kilometers. The length of the shore is about 29 kilometers. The island Šćit is made even more beautiful by a dike. Other two little islands, Umac and Škarine, brake the monotony of the surrounding. The lake has a semicircle shape, with many bays. The mild dropping of the bays makes the lake accessible from all sides. The deepest point of the lake is at 95 meters under the water. It is located on the land that was fertile and had a lot of agricultural potential.
There is a lot of loam on the bottom of the water. That is why the shores of the lake are very muddy. This happens because of the constant oscillation of the water. The water is often blurred, especially in the afternoons when the wind inhibits the waves that hit the shores. The lake is normally clear and green colored. The lake fills up after the enormous amount of the snow melt, but the constant emptying of the accumulation in order to produce electricity waste the water.
That is why the lake is almost always half empty in the summer. The regular flow in of the water comes in from Rama, Buka and Krupić, and from other small brooks and springs. The spring of Rama is located underneath the surface of the lake. This river is very cold at its spring (7.5 degrees), but the surface of the lake warms up quickly for the swimmers. There are a lot of them when the lake is full. Sometimes the parts of the lake freeze during the winter. There are many kinds of fish in the lake, like trout carp, pikeperch...there are not many vessels to be seen on this lake, because of the constant oscillation of the water.
The traffic until the lake is available by a road from Prozorand by a newly opened road that leads from Tomislavgrad, Livno and Split. It is possible to come to the Ramsko jezero even from Prozor over Blidinje, Kedžare and Orašac.

Nevesinje

High mountains and a field with karst landscape surround Nevesinje. This area is placed in the southeastern part of BiH. The complete county belongs to the mountain area with an average altitude of 860 meters. This location can be characterized by a large field with karst landscape that occupies about 18 000 acres. the climate is continental, with long and cold winters and short summers. The town Nevesinje is placed underneath the mountain Velež, at the approximate altitude of 899 meters above sea level. Nevesinje is mentioned for the first time in the historic literature in the 12th century, as a center of a parish that has the same name.
The residence of the parish of Nevesinje and the capital was Vjenčac, that has later become the residence of the prince. The town was placed above the today’s settlement. It was called Knežac, Knežak or Grad. The remains of that military fortress and the town walls at visible even today. During the first decades of the 14th century, Nevesinje has been under the rule of the Sanković family.
At that time the Sanković family had been very powerful and took part in the gathering of famous rich people of that time. They were the representatives of the land of Hum (Humska zemlja). This order of the landlords of Nevesinje and Zagorje was very politically active in the medieval Bosnian country. There are many old tomb stones like stećci in the area of Nevesinje.
There is an old barrow with 452 tombstones in the area of Krekovi. Nevesinje had a tempestuous past during the Ottoman rule. Even in the second part of the 19th century, there were a couple of revolts. The fact that this area has plenty of woods is probably one of the most important characteristics of this terrain.
Over 6000 acres are covered with woods. The wood is mostly used in the wood processing industry. The mountain pasture Morine occupies the surface of over 2040 acres, and it is an ideal area for farming and cattlery.

Buško blato (Buško Lake)

Buško blato is natural ending of Livno field. In the seventies in 20th century, on the south part of Livno field, the biggest artificial lake in Europe was shaped. It is situated on 716 m height above sea level. The lake only has surface of 50 square kilometres, and volume of 782 cubic metres. It is 13, 5 km long and average width of 4, 1 km while the biggest width is 7, 2 km. The average depth of Buško blato ia about 15, 5 m.
Although it is situated on Livno field, only one third of the lake belongs to Livno municipality, and two thirds to Tomislavgrad municipality. The lake is used as accumulation for hydro-electric water plant Orlovac.
The lake is suitable for water sports and bathing, so in summer we can see bathers refreshing on the beach Marinovac, but also on the other places. Those who are more into fishing can also be satisfied.
It is rich with fish, so fishermen are not rare there. Beside chub, chiton and carp, there are other species which are ruined during summer water oscillation. In that time the whole fish fond is in danger because of excessively amount of water for hydro-electric power plant needs. In the middle of hot summer days the water level from the lake decreases and green surface of the field arises and sandbank in the middle which inhabitants call Prisap or Kraljičin nasip (Queen`s dike).
The legend says that during time when Buško blato was lake, a queen ordered to build dike from southwest to northeast and drained big part of the field.
The legend is mentioning queen Buga, after who the lake was named. Allegedly, Buga was the sister of five famous brothers who lead Croats from their original home in this area.
